TIME (Exclusive) Celeb Secrets

Country singer/songwriter Adam Doleac is doing what he does best in his latest EP release about: TIME, putting together an eight-track collection of beautiful, feel-good, love songs.

Penning every song with the exception of one, Doleac’s new project, which dropped on June 28, was produced by Lindsay Rimes and is the perfect soundtrack for your playlists this summer.

“This EP is called ‘About Time’ and it’s about the word ‘time;’ how we spend our time, who we waste our time on, and that kind of situation. The love songs are what have gotten me to where I am now so its a little more of that,” Adam reveals to Celeb Secrets backstage at CMA Fest 2024 back in June.

Drawing inspiration from his personal life came easy as a new husband and father.

The crooner married his long-time love MacKinnon Morrissey back in 2022 and recently welcomed their first baby boy Jack.  The couple’s love story can be heard in his favorite self-penned song titled “Calling It Now,” as it takes listeners through the different stages of dating from the very first “hello” to walking down the aisle.

“It’s the story of my wife and I and it’s basically the knowing when you see someone, before you even talk to them, ‘I’m going to buy her a drink, I’m calling it now’ or ‘I’m going to end up with her, I’m calling it now,'” Adam reveals. “It’s a story song which are my favorite kind of songs, as it takes you somewhere new every single verse and it doesn’t stop. The last verse of the song is my personal favorite.”

While the project as a whole is a collection of love songs, some of the inspiration came from unlikely places, such as the Mississippi native’s love for baseball. The song “You Go I Go” was initially inspired by his time as a former college athlete at University of Southern Mississippi, where his rival was fellow country star Brett Young, who played for the University of Mississippi.

“Brett Young played at Ole Miss and I played at Southern Miss so we’re rivals. I was first base and he was a pitcher. I would’ve been hitting against Brett but I never got to do that. I wish I could’ve, I would’ve loved to have played against him,” he revealed with a smile.

“I played baseball at Southern Miss, so an athletic term would be ‘you go, I go.’ You get a hit and the rest of the team will kind of take off, so I had that idea in my head and I was like, ‘how do we make that into more of a country song?’ And that kind of landed as ‘anywhere you go, I go’ as really a romantic idea,” he continues.

“I thought it’d be fun to make it more fun like ‘you go slip in my sweatshirt, I go pop us a bottle of red’ and that’s where it landed. I was kind of chasing after something in that Old Dominion world that’s really fun and summery since summer was coming up… luckily we just nailed it that day,” he concludes.

Doleac wraps up the EP by leaving fans with a fun hint of what to expect next. Track 8, titled “about: GONE Interlude” is a 1 minute and 11 second melody that takes the happy, feel-good project in a darker direction, fading out with the only lyrics “she ain’t comin’ back.” Listeners can only assume a heartbreak anthem is next in line for any new upcoming releases.

“There’s three new songs on there that fans haven’t heard yet, so I think the music is continuing to get better. There’s also a little nugget at the end of the EP, an interlude, that’s a hint on what songs are coming next,” he shares.

As for live performances, fans can catch Adam on a string of headlining shows across the U.S. for the next few months, including a big “hometown” show at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville on August 24th. The new boy dad did scale back from 100 shows per year to around 40 to make time for his newborn son and to no surprise, is enjoying every minute of it.

“It’s been so great. Definitely our favorite thing we’ve ever done,” he shares. “[Jack] came to the show earlier, so it was his first time coming and he had the little baby headphones on, which is the cutest thing in the world. We are very lucky. He’s a happy baby and he sleeps so we’ve had it pretty easy so far.”
